Although Poland has never beaten its neighbor in 15 tries, the Poles like their chances when they get another crack at Germany on Sunday in their Euro 2008 opener in Klagenfurt.
- We know one thing, which is the most important: if we show 100 percent of what we're capable, we'll win - Poland defender Michal Zewlakow said. Leo Beenhakker, the team's Dutch coach, feels the same way: - If everybody is on board and 100 percent on board, then we are good enough (to beat Germany).

While confident, Poland also is well aware of the talent and strength of a German squad that finished third at the 2006 World Cup. - Germany is a team that always plays to the final whistle - Poland forward Maciej Zurawski said. - More than once they showed that even when things aren't going their way, they are able to score a goal in the 90th minute.

Zurawski would know. The Poland captain played 90 minutes in the two teams' last meeting at the 2006 World Cup, where

Germany scored an injury-time goal to win 1-0 and knock Poland out of the competition. - I don't know how much their game has changed since the World Cup. I haven't analyzed it - Zurawski said. - Generally, coach keeps telling us that we need to focus on ourselves and our rhythm because what's the point of worrying about the Germans if we aren't going to play our game.

But things have changed in Poland since the World Cup. The Polish Football Federation fired Pawel Janas and hired Beenhakker in July 2006 as the first foreigner to coach Poland. The savvy, veteran manager quickly turned the squad around and guided the Poles to their first ever appearance at the European Championship.

Beenhakker observed the Germans' final warm-up match against Serbia from the stands in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and said he already has his starting lineup set for Sunday's game. - I have it in my mind, but the players have to confirm that I made the right choices - Beenhakker said after a 90 minute training session Tuesday, adding he still wants to tinker with his midfield play and set pieces, but that his

squad's form is improving daily. - We're everyday a little bit closer - Beenhakker said. - That's the idea, of course, because the climax will be on

Sunday...
