Poland's disappointing record against Germany hasn't stopped Poland captain Maciej Zurawski from believing his team has a chance for an upset at next month's European Championship.

Poland, which has never beaten Germany in 15 games, faces the three-time European champions on June 8 in its opening match in Group B in Switzerland and Austria.

'I think we can play Germany even or even beat Germany, but we have to play at least like we did against Portugal or better' Zurawski said Tuesday at Poland's training camp in Donaueschingen, Germany.

In European qualifying, Poland beat Portugal 2-1 at home, and drew 2-2 in Lisbon.

'If we can beat Portugal, we can beat Germany, but a lot of conditions have to be fulfilled' Zurawski said. 'Germany is a very good team, and I'm happy that we have the chance to play them in our first match.'

In their 15 matches, the Germans have won 11 times, including a 1-0 victory on an injury-time goal that knocked Poland out of the 2006 World Cup. Poland also plays Austria and Croatia in Group B.

Veteran defender Jacek Bak called Germany the 'the best on paper' but added that 'on the field it can be the opposite.'

Bak, who played for Poland at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, is keeping a level head about Poland's chances at this year's tournament, however.

'Everybody goes there to become European champion, but advancing from the group stage would definitely be a step forward' Bak said.

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has also said that advancing from the group stage would be a 'huge success' for the country.
